Egg donation becoming a booming business for donors - What do you think?
I saw this article, and I am curious as to how others feel about this....please post your comments!? Theresa Erickson
"What you are paying for is a time-intensive, unpleasant and intrusive process," Tipton said. "We think it is totally appropriate to compensate women who are kind enough to do this."
Some firms have two-tier pricing for candidates with the right credentials. Fertility Alternatives, based in California, spells out the requirements for higher payment in detail, including: "A graduate of a major university (preferably Ivy League), SAT scores higher than 1350?and willing to provide college transcripts."
No such documentation is required of male donors, who, Spar said, do not even need to provide a photo.
"There?s no such thing as premium sperm," she said.
1) I have been blogging about my experience using donor sperm and IVF to have my kids, and about donating my left-over embryos to an infertile couple at:
embryodonation.blogspot.com/
2) There is too such a thing as premium sperm. Fairfax Cryo charges more for doctors/PhD. Most banks charge more for open ID (knowable) donors.
3) We picked our sperm donor partly b/c his SAT scores were 1500 (of 1600 possible). Info like that is indeed reported for sperm donors.
4) Many sperm donors do submit pictures of themselves as children. Xytex also has adult photos of sperm donors.
5) Egg donation is a nightmare. It's worth way more than $10,000 for all the hassle, shots, Dr. visits, etc.
